What is Triple Milled Soap?
What does triple milled mean and why you need to know!
Have you ever wondered why some soap lasts and some just doesn’t?
In a nutshell, here are the main benefits to choosing Triple Milled soap over regular soap:
It is smoother and more refined.
This process creates bar soaps that are more homogeneous than homemade versions, so they last longer and have a higher quality feel to them. The finished good feels smooth on the skin and provides a rich, luxurious lather when mixed with water.
The term triple milled conjures up visions of a extremely high-end soap with luscious lather that lasts forever. Triple Milled bars are very hard. Triple milled soap is typically made from de-glycerinized soap flakes (soap where glycerin has been removed) that are pressed through still rollers under high pressure 3 times while different additives are added each time it goes through. For the handcrafted, artisan community, triple milling isn’t easily possible. It requires industrial size, very expensive machinery. Triple milling is usually done by mostly large companies.
Triple Milling is a process that produces soap of the highest quality, and of the most luxuriant lather. When the soap is made, it is passed through high pressure roller mills at least three times. This causes the soap crystals to transform into a smooth paste.
Compared to traditional soap-making methods, triple milling allows for a very even mixing of ingredients and creates a remarkably longer lasting and smoother bar of soap.
There a number of ways in which soap can be made, however, as people are returning to products that contain natural ingredients and are produced through environmentally and animal friendly methods, it’s Triple Milled soap (such as MOR Boutique Triple Milled Soap) that has truly set the standard for high quality.
Triple milled soap will also hold up better in use, as it’s homogeneity makes the product sturdier than handmade varieties. While soaking the bar in water will cause it to soften and crack after it dries, it will hold up well during traditional use and storage in the shower or next to a sink.
It is a common misconception that extruded triple milled soap is harder than other varieties. Hardness of soap is actually relative to the choice of fats used to saponify in to the base.
Many of our potential customers are small brands that have outgrown the capabilities of their at-home equipment and want to scale up their successful bar soap business. While we can’t replicate the exact look and feel of a hand poured and cut bar at our factory, we are able to create a very similar product that will gain the additional benefits of being triple milled and can be cut or pressed to replicate a handmade product.
